Sankei Sho — Nakayama, Japan

Sunday’s Sankei Sho may be a race with limited winning chances but that doesn’t mean the race doesn’t hold intrigue. In fact with five-year-old mare Regaleira likely to start favourite, there will be plenty of punters looking to take her on following the last start seventh. And while she did win last time she wasn’t facing Group 1 Company, this race is no walkover. Cosmo Kuranda and June Take are both generally consistent but don’t discount last start winner Panja who may start in double figures.

Underwood Stakes — Caulfield, Australia

A small but select field will face the starter on Saturday for the Underwood Stakes at Caulfield. Much of the focus will be on Perth import Cosmic Crusader. He’s already announced himself to eastern seaboard racing fans with sharp wins in the Bletchingly and PB Lawrence before an eye-catching third in the Memsie. He steps out to 1800 metres which will be the first time he’s back to a middle distance since winning the Northerly in his home state. He’s hardly devoid of challengers, however, with Lindermann confirmed to head south, while Buckaroo and Birdman — both of whom bypassed the Memsie Stakes — also loom as key dangers.

Mill Reef Stakes — Newbury, England

It’s arguably the most famous juvenile horse race in the northern hemisphere and this year is sure to provide an eye to the future with a number of talented two year olds heading to Newbury. With an honour roll including the likes of Ribchester and Harry Angel, there’s plenty on the line Saturday as Arapaho Gold, Jolivette and Nabati duel for favouritism.
